Today I'm going to talk about Three Pillars of Motherhood with Jessica Lorion. Brief summary of show: What are the three pillars of motherhood? Are there steps you can take to take the competition, resentment and judgment out of motherhood? Joining me on this episode is Jessica Lorion. Jessica has spent the past 12 years as a professional actor and voice over artist in New York City. Now, as the Host and Producer of the Mamas in Training Podcast, she supports pregnant women and aspiring moms on their journey into motherhood. What makes her show different from other pregnancy and motherhood podcasts is that she is NOT yet a mom. An autoimmune disease has delayed her journey into motherhood and she has decided to learn right alongside her audience. With a background in performing on stage, in front of camera, as well as being a professional singer, her mission is to spread the importance of studying motherhood. She intends to use her voice and desire to connect with women everywhere, to share the lessons she has learned and give community to those in need. 00:00 Intro 01:50 Why Jessica talks about motherhood even if she isn’t a mother yet herself 04:05 How Jessica developed her 3 pillars of motherhood 05:50 The importance of advocacy 10:25 Planning and preparing 16:30 Prioritizing community from a different perspective Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to my channel to learn more about staying motivated to live the life you deserve! https://www.youtube.com/c/ntysdal Sign Up for Natalie’s Newsletter: https://page.natalietysdal.com/newsletter Connect with Natalie Tysdal On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ntysdal/ On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/ntysdal On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NatalieTysdal/ Website: https://www.natalietysdal.com Thank you for helping us grow! https://page.natalietysdal.com/products/thanks Free Parenting Class: https://www.positiveparentingsolutions.com/amember/aff/go/natalie_tysdal Get 45 days of Canva Pro for free here: https://www.natalietysdal.com/favorites Business Email: hello@natalietysdal.comHowto & Style

Breaking the cycle of judgement. How do we break the cycle of judgment? Can we transform the way we communicate, even if it differs from how we were raised? Signs You May Be an Emotional Eater with Jessica Procini

Signs You May Be an Emotional Eater with Jessica Procini How do you know if you’re an emotional eater? Have you leaned on food to help you get through an emotion, time in your time, or something else? Do you turn to food in happy and sad moments? Or when unwinding after a long day? We’re talking about emotional eating on the podcast this week, with my guest Jessica Procini. Jessica Procini is on a mission to help high-achieving women heal the roots of their emotional eating so they can use food as a nourishing asset rather than a self-destructive way to cope, soothe and attempt to escape their busy, stressful lives. She created Escape From Emotional Eating®, a unique process grounded in a decade of research, a background in Psychology of Eating, Transformational Coaching methods, and her own personal emotional eating journey because Overeaters Anonymous didn’t resonate with her and the 932 hours she spent in therapy never helped her end her fight with food. She knew there needed to be a different kind of support... one that got to the roots of emotional eating. Now 100% free from her compulsions with food, Jessica helps other high-achieving women get to the roots of their emotional eating through her year-long programs, retreats, keynotes, and workshops. As a sought-after thought leader, Jessica’s work has received multiple awards from the Institute of Psychology of Eating and has been featured in noteworthy media outlets such as ABC, CBS, and MindBodyGreen. How to Recover from Addiction with Mike Gibson In this episode, Mike Gibson joins me on the podcast to talk about how to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. We also touch on how to help our kids who may be struggling. Mike Gibson earned a scholarship to Cal-Berkeley for football and played for two years before he got drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008. He played a total of 6 years in the NFL (Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals). In his third year, he suffered an injury and shortly after got addicted to prescription painkillers. He started at 5 mg of Vicodin and by the time he finished his career was taking a minimum of 300 mg of OxyContin daily. After he retired, he became a sheriff's deputy, completing his credentials as class president, abusing OxyContin and adderall the entire duration. He was a deputy for under a year before getting asked to resign for his unhealthy habits. This setback turned him to becoming addicted to stronger substances such as heroin and meth. After going in and out of rehab 6 times, in his last session Mike made a breakthrough and has been sober for 5 years. He has worked in treatment centers as an addiction counselor for the entire 5 years he has been sober. If we're not giving some control to our kids, then they're not gaining confidence and learning to do things for themselves. Joining me for this conversation is Dr. William R. Stixrud, a clinical neuropsychologist and founder of The Stixrud Group. He is a member of the teaching faculty at Children’s National Medical Center and an assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Stixrud is the author, with Ned Johnson, of the nationally bestselling book, The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives. He is a frequent lecturer and workshop presenter and the author of several articles and book chapters on topics related to adolescent brain development, stress and sleep deprivation, integration of the arts in education, and meditation. His work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Times of London, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News and World Report, Time Magazine, Scientific American, Business Week, Barron’s, and, New York Magazine. This organization based in Denver, Colorado is supporting the people impacted by human trafficking while also helping other organizations serving survivors and working to eliminate trafficking. Please watch and see how you can help them. Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking Founded in 2009, the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking (LCHT) is a leader in Colorado's anti-trafficking movement. Our programs have become critical to supporting the people impacted by human trafficking, as well as to the coordination of organizations serving survivors and working to eliminate trafficking. We focus our work on research to inform state-wide anti-trafficking efforts, training personnel in positions to detect and/or serve victims of trafficking, education to raise public awareness, oversight of Colorado's statewide human trafficking hotline, and development of future human rights leaders. Since 2005, we have provided anti-trafficking training to over 40,000 people, conducted three major research projects to drive action and inform policy, managed the statewide 24/7 human trafficking hotline/text line, grown the resource directory of agencies available to intervene in trafficking and serve victims to 325 agencies, and supported 174 interns. Monetary donations are most welcome. You can learn more about LCHT and donate here: https://www.combathumantrafficking.org/donate/ We also have one main volunteer opportunity. Anyone 18 or older and Colorado-based can apply to become a hotline volunteer advocate, answering calls and texts from survivors, service providers, and community members for Colorado's 24/7 Human Trafficking Hotline. [00:00:00] Natalie: Hi, everyone in today's podcast. I want to talk about boundaries. What does it mean to have boundaries as a news person and a working parent? I found this very difficult for 28 years. I worked in an industry. It was really hard to set boundaries with the news being 24 hours a day, always had to know what was going on. [00:00:18] So my guest today is someone who's going to help us redefine boundaries. We're actually going to call them. Non-negotiables Christy Peale was also in the news business. We have so many things in common as you're going to hear in the podcast, which she helps us determine what those things are. It might be work non-negotiables, it might be in your private life, but it's so important to set these types of boundaries and to have specific things that you simply don't negotiate on. [00:00:44] I think you're really going to enjoy this podcast with Christie peel. [00:00:48] [00:00:51] Natalie: Christie joining me now we have a similar background and I am excited to see where her new career to occur because I'm going through that right now, Christy. So good to talk to you today. Thanks for taking the time. [00:01:03] Kristi: Thank you so much for inviting me. It's a pleasure. [00:01:05] Natalie: We have these stories to share from years on television. [00:01:09] You're an Emmy award winning television reporter. And you made the decision to leave that business many years before I did. We started at about the same time, but give me a little bit of your [00:01:19] Kristi: background. Sure. I was a television news reporter and anchor at five different television stations in four different states, got to cover and have a front row seat for amazing stories and watched history in the making. Must have nutrition as Kids go BACK TO SCHOOL

We want our kids to be healthy now more than ever. There are some key things we can do to help them get healthy and stay healthy and it doesn't have to be a struggle. In this BACK TO SCHOOL interview I talk to my favorite nutrition expert, Carley Smith (AKA, the Fairy GutMother) about how to help our kids eat foods that actually heal and help their overall health. Sugar is a huge problem in our society but there are easy substitutes and fun snacks that kids, even teenagers will like. Carley is a nutritional therapist (NTP) and Gut and Psychology Syndrome Practitioner (GAPS). She turned to nutrition and food as medicine as a means of healing after being diagnosed with Lyme disease. In doing so she empowered herself and many others to get well and eat healthy. join Natalie Tysdal as she interviews others on health, family and mindset topics on this channel and on her website https:natalietysdal.comPeople & Blogs

They are passionate about training and leading future relationship coaches and have an accredited coaching certification program. Jocelyn & Aaron Freeman are ordained, and their vision is to make 'relationship development' the new 'personal development' and to lower the divorce rate in their lifetime. Partial Transcript: Natalie: [00:01:03] So how can arguing, let's just start with the hard question. How can arguing actually be good for a relationship? [00:01:11] Jocelyn: [00:01:11] Well before answering exactly why it can be good. I want to answer why not arguing is not good and what we find. This is one of our key quotes from our book and something that we will champion for the rest of our lives is that avoiding conflict. [00:01:25] And the short term builds resentment in the long. And a lot of times couples think that oh, conflict equals divorce, or it means that our relationship is degrading and going the wrong direction. What we find in our work with couples is that the majority of couples. Headed in the direction of disconnection, potentially leaning towards separation is that they've actually been avoiding conflict for too long. [00:01:52] Meaning they've been avoiding hard conversations. They've been suppressing needs, wants desires and the relationship because they're afraid of their partner's reaction or because of how they have fought in the past. And so we want to say that. Resentment is harder to repair from then when you learn healthy conflict skills. [00:02:15] And do you, do you want it to touch on why it could then be a [00:02:18] Aaron: [00:02:18] positive? Let me give two analogies. I really love analogies. First of all, you know, imagine you listening. There was a period in your life where you don't feel as physically fit. So in those moments you have this experience of maybe low self-confidence or you don't feel good about yourself, right? [00:02:36] So you label that as a negative experience. However, if you accept and own that feeling, what does that drive? You? Well, I'm going to start taking the actions around my nutrition or going to the gym or getting fit. So it drove you to a higher level of physicality. Now, imagine way back when people used to drive like a horse and buggies, right? [00:03:00] There was a time period where they thought to themselves, this doesn't work at all. It takes us way too long and it was from that. That somebody named Henry Ford came up with a driving an automobile, right. Or, you know, take that further. So essentially all conflict is the material in which creativity and innovation. [00:03:23] So, if you had no conflict, we wouldn't be flying in planes. We wouldn't be sending rockets to Mars. We wouldn't have any of the technology we have today, but we don't see it that way in relationships. Right? If you could actually own that, oh, we see this differently, our finances, or having a kids or where to live, that is the base material that is meant for you to. [00:03:45] Look together as a team on that's going to move you more towards being connected, being on the same page, moving towards your purpose together. It's just that we don't see it that way. So we allow it to put us against each other rather than linking arms getting on the same team and saying, how is this meant for creativity, connection and innovation in our own lives?People & Blogs

Over-Parenting is Harming Your Kids with Julie Lythcott-Haims

[00:01:53]Why she wrote her first book: So that book is written from the vantage point of my being a Dean at Stanford and being a mom in Silicon valley. So like you, I'm a parent. My own kids are now crazy for me to say, I just can't believe it, but they're 22 and almost 20. In fact, by the time this comes out, my little one will be 20. [00:02:11] And so here I am raising kids and Silicon valley Palo Alto, trying to do the right thing. And I'm at this elite institution where my job is to advocate for and care about other people's grown-up kids. And I began to see some things that were really concerning parents were behaving at the university level in ways they had been behaving K through 12. [00:03:03] Being a Dean at Stanford: And I was really in this place of rooting for these young adults to be able to register themselves for class and all their own routine problems and make choices and go off in directions that felt right to them without sort of being overly attended. Um, Like such an encroach. Into their agency. And of course we were seeing the rise in mental health challenges in the young adult population. [00:03:27] Realizing the problem: I'm cutting a ten-year-olds meat and for anybody listening, 10 is too old to be cutting your kids. Meat 10 is too old to be bathing your kid in the bathtub. Okay. Kids have to learn to do things for themselves. [00:04:11] They need increasing privacy over their bodies. They need increasing decision-making power. They need increasing problem solving opportunities. Okay. So I'm seeing all of this and feeling really, once I got that, I was part of the problem. I became very invested in understanding what are we doing? Why are we doing it? [00:05:25] Love versus enabling: You know, food nourishes us, you know, eating is important for our health and wellness. Usually there's some good family time around it. These are good things we want to be offering. We also want to know our kids can learn to do this stuff for themselves. So it's both. Let me give you an example of the four step method we can use to teach any child any skill. [00:05:43]So let's go to making a grilled cheese sandwich. I don't know if your family. Grilled cheese. Of course. Yeah. Every kid has to learn every skill before they, you know, at some point in life and much of it before they leave our home. So making a sandwich, a hot sandwich on the stove. the four step method for teaching any kid, any skill is first, you do it for them. [00:06:01] Then you do it with them. Then you watch them do it. And finally they can do it. So in the early years you're making the grilled cheese sandwich and your little one is in the family room or in their booster chair or wherever you're doing all the work they're going to. They have nothing to do with the work of it. [00:07:40] When did the over parenting trend start? As you know, from the book it's I lay it out in the introduction, basically in the eighties, in the mid eighties, there were a lot of changes at foot, a foot around safety around kids, activities, more So stranger danger was born. right play dates were born. Kids could no longer play freely. Parents had to arrange it or over it and intervene. We began doing the self-esteem movement. Yeah, you're amazing all the time patient trophies which led to the expectation that they would get constant praise and feedback and everything. [00:14:20] And also what you want is trust between parent and child. You want to say you're old enough now to be out until I presume, like, let me give you an example about curfews. I'm a curfew person. [00:14:32] If I've told you my kids are now 20 and 22, when my daughter was a freshman in high school, I think her weekend curfew was. 10:00 PM. And she said you know, mom, none of my friends have curfews. This is unfair. And I was like, really? How do they, how do they do it? How do your friend's parents do it? She says, well, my friends just text their parents constantly through the night. The New book [00:18:36] Okay. Your turn. Yes. And, and [00:18:40] Natalie: [00:18:40] knowing who you are there it is. It's a beautiful book. I'm excited to read it. I loved your writing and I think it's a great transition. And you can tell me more about the book because we have to love ourselves. We have to know who we are. [00:18:53] We have to always become a better person. And part of doing that is not relying on on the happiness of our children to be happy. [00:19:02]Julie: [00:19:02] Yeah, no one can give you happiness. You've got to find that space within yourself. They say that happiness is the distance between what you have and what you want. [00:19:12] And so if there's a great distance are less happy. So the, the greater, the distance, the less happy you are, you want what you have and what you want to be as close together.People & Blogs

In this week’s episode, Natalie chats with Jill and Dave Henry, authors of the new book called The Greatest College Health Guide You Never Knew You Needed. Jill and Dave Henry met coaching high school sports in Los Angeles and have been working with teens for nearly fifteen years. The book was written with one goal in mind: to help students take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health when on their own for the very first time. Two segments of our population hurting, senior citizens and students who are seniors in high school. In this interview I talk with two innovative entrepreneurs who have created "Seniors4Seniors". Eric Peterson is the CEO and Founder of Seniors4Seniors, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Seniors4Seniors engages in the reduction of isolation, loneliness, and depression in our youth and older adults. As a caregiver in a senior community, Eric was aware of these challenges which the senior residents he cared for were facing daily. He also became aware that our youth, especially those in their high school years, were also having these same challenges and he decided to take action. Eric developed Seniors4Seniors, a program which brings together the older adults and youth in our communities, enabling enriching, real human connections. This program establishes connections between individuals with shared interests, with a focus on career aspirations of the youth that correspond to career backgrounds of the older adults. This is a unique approach that enables relationships that truly touch the human heart and mind. Professor Jason Powell PhD, FCMI is Senior Vice President of Seniors4Seniors. He is proud to facilitate the vision of its Founder/CEO Eric Peterson, whose transformational leadership is to make meaningful connections across intergenerational groups by providing service to one another. The program provides the unique conditions to address loneliness and reconstruct such adverse experiences through reciprocity, wellbeing, and community leadership. Currently, Jason is Provost at the Manchester Institute of Learning and Excellence and Visiting Professor at The University of Chester and an elected Academician of The Academy of Urbanism. Recently, Jason became Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health because of his lifetime contribution to research on aging. According to Google Scholar, Jason is the most cited researcher of all time for his research on ‘care’ and ‘age’. you can learn more at Senors4seniors.ORGNonprofits & Activism
